Treatment
Esophageal cancer’s treatment will depend on its stage, patient’s overall health, and response to the treatment. If cancer hasn’t spread very far, the tumor can be removed by using a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach which involves using an endoscope and several small incisions.
Open surgery or esophagectomy will be required if cancer has moved to an advanced stage. The surgeon will have to remove a portion of the esophagus and sometimes the lymph nodes around it to prevent cancer from spreading any further. This is later followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy to kill the remaining cancer cells.
In collaboration with some of the top gastroenterologists, surgeons at Curadors have successfully performed several such surgeries over a period of 15 years. Our partnered facility, Maroof International Hospital has state-of-the-art operation theaters equipped with the world’s most advanced equipment to provide the best quality treatment to our patients.
Risks, Complications & Preventions
It is not possible to eliminate the risk of developing esophageal cancer completely. However, it can be prevented by avoiding excessive smoking, drinking, maintaining a healthy weight, and including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.
