Overview
Uterine or endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the uterus. It is found in the inner lining of the uterus and if left untreated, it can even spread to the rectum and vagina. It can be easily detected at an early stage and does not spread very quickly.

Causes
Uterine cancer is caused by:
- Menopause
- Change in Level of Sex Hormones
- Hormone Therapy
- Family History
Diagnosis
Other than the regular physical checkup a doctor may advise one or more than one of the following tests to determine the best treatment. Tests can include:
Endometrial Biopsy
Ultrasound
Abdominal and Pelvic CT Scan
Pelvic MRI

Make an appointment right away if any worrisome symptoms appear.
Treatment
Treatment for uterine cancer usually involves surgery. Hysterectomy is performed to remove the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Additional surgery may be required if cancer has spread to lymph nodes or any nearby organs. Radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be later done to kill the remaining cancer cells.
Risks, Complications & Preventions
Uterine cancer can be prevented by taking birth control pills and maintaining a healthy weight. Make an appointment with the doctor if you experience any abnormal vaginal bleeding and avoid hormone therapy after menopause.
