Overview
One of the most common musculoskeletal issues is meniscus injury. It is a widely performed surgical procedure all around the world. A meniscus injury is quite typical in sportsmen and athletes like footballers, cricket, and volleyball players. It can occur while changing direction suddenly during running.

Causes
A meniscus injury is quite common in sportsmen and athletes. It can occur while changing direction suddenly during running and playing sports like football or cricket. Low impact exercises such as walking or swimming can also result in meniscus injuries.

Other than the regular physical examination, a doctor may advise the following tests:

Treatment
Treatment is based on the patient’s diagnosis and the severity of the condition. Moderate exercises and medications may be prescribed in the initial stages. In some cases, physical or occupational therapy can be suggested as well.

The surgical procedure is advised for patients under a certain age. However, others can have a simple procedure involving trimming of the worn-out meniscus.
Risks, Complications & Preventions
