Treatment
Treatment
Early breast cancer can be treated with breast-conserving surgery. Unlike mastectomy, in which the entire breast is removed, this surgery only involves removing a small tumor with surrounding healthy tissue.
In case, cancer has spread to lymph nodes, the surgeon may perform a sentinel node biopsy to remove one or a few more lymph nodes to prevent cancer from spreading any further.
Risks, Complications & Preventions
Regular breast self exams and screening tests should be conducted on a regular basis. Excessive drinking and hormone therapy after menopause must be avoided to reduce the risk of developing cancer. Women with a family history of cancer are advised to consult a doctor as soon as they notice any change in their breasts.
