Overview
Circumcision is a surgical procedure in which the foreskin from the penis is removed. It is one of the most common pediatric surgeries and can be performed easily within the first ten days of birth. It takes about five to ten minutes to circumcise a baby.
Symptoms
Circumcision is performed by numbing the penis with a numbing cream or an injectable anesthetic. A clamp or plastic ring is attached to the penis and the foreskin is removed. Petroleum jelly or an ointment is applied to the penis before lightly wrapping it with gauze.
Circumcision for older boys and male adults must be done under general anesthesia. Their recovery time would be longer and the risk of having complications might be greater too.
Surgeons at Curadors have successfully performed several such procedures over a period of 15 years. Our partnered facility, Maroof International Hospital has state-of-the-art operation theaters equipped with the world’s most advanced equipment to provide the best quality treatment to our patients.
Risks, Complications & Preventions
After the procedure, it is very important to keep the area clean. The dressing should be changed frequently and apply petroleum jelly after every diaper change. The area may be washed with lukewarm water. Circumcision usually heals within a week. If you notice any signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling or pus-filled blisters, see a doctor immediately.
